Ray Petkovsek - CPA / Partner - ray@pmcpas.com
Ray
received his BBA in Public Accounting from the University of Wisconsin – Eau
Claire in 1973. His career began as an income tax auditor with the Wisconsin
Department of Revenue. In 1974 he joined White, Reinholtz & Pfefferkorn,
a large Madison, WI CPA firm, as a senior tax specialist. In 1983 he left the
firm to become a founding partner of a Madison real estate company, specializing
in land development and multi-family residential construction. He is a licensed
Wisconsin real estate broker.
But his heart was in public accounting. In 1984 he founded his own CPA practice.
By 2000 the practice grew to the point where he and one of his employees, Dave
Moran, formed Petkovsek & Moran, LLP. Today the firm is located in a large
office building designed and owned by Ray and his wife Sue.
Besides the usual business and individual consulting engagements on taxes
and planning issues, Ray specializes in IRC 1031 tax deferred like-kind exchanges
of investment real estate. He has advised clients, attorneys, title insurance
companies, real estate brokers and other CPA firms nationwide on the intricacies
of exchanges.
Ray is an active member of both the American (AICPA) and Wisconsin (WICPA)
Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a former President of the
WICPA Educational Foundation, Inc. and currently serves on the WICPA Board
of Directors. Ray is an active community and church volunteer, including serving
on various committees at First United Methodist Church, NAMI Dane County (providing
services to the mentally ill community) and as advisor to the Board of Directors
of Rock Creek Disabled Outdoors, Inc. (providing outdoor recreation opportunities
for disabled and wheelchair bound individuals).
Rays’ true passions, beyond family and friends, are helping clients
realize their dreams and musky fishing. You are more likely to find him
on his boat musky fishing in September & October than in the office.
